I just found a wonderful treasure trove of information that you might not have heard about. Google created an archive of newspapers dating into the mid-1800s. In those mirthful dusty pages are nuggets of baseball nougat. Chewy and sweet, these old news articles let us peek in on a time long ago where baseball was different, yet the same.
Here is a snippet from one paper I looked at - The Day, New London, CT, July 20, 1903:
Reading further in the issue I found an article about a pitcher that was unhappy with his pay and an article on a player talking about the art of hitting. Here's a link to the front page
